Students who wish to register for a career education program take a computerized test called the COMPASS. It is not a pass/fail test and simply measures your academic skills in three areas: reading, writing and mathematics.
The test is designed to help promote your success as a student as it allows the college to determine the best placement in academic classes. The results determine placement in appropriate math and communication courses, and whether you meet the predetermined scores for direct entry into a career training program.
The COMPASS test is untimed. Most students need approximately two hours to complete the test.
Student must register and pay the non-refundable fee of $19 for the test at the Cashier's office at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled testing time. Please remember to bring government-issued photo ID.
Testing is on a first-come, first-served basis and starts promptly. Students arriving at the testing center after the test has started will not be admitted, so as not to disrupt those who have already started the test.
