The Hearing Instrument Technology career education program at Bates Technical College provides training in professional terminology, anatomy, physiology, fitting and servicing hearing aids, along with patient/family education.
Today, there is virtually no hearing loss that cannot benefit from the use of appropriate technology. After thorough assessment of hearing loss, appropriate technology should be chosen as soon as possible to improve the quality of life and maintain brain function.
Currently, hearing aids are the most common way to improve irreversible hearing loss. Because of research in hearing sciences, advances in electronics and computer technology, new and better hearing aids are continually being developed. Becoming a hearing aid fitter/dispenser will require a lifetime of learning. You will develop professional relationships with your patients that will enhance your career and provide a sense of professional satisfaction throughout the years.
