Course Descriptions
FERPA 101: Student Privacy (Patrick Brown, Registrar)
An overview of what FERPA is and how it applies to student records. Discuss what information is protected, and why, as well as what may be disclosed to others.
Emergency Preparedness: Stuff you wish you knew before the disaster hit (Jeri Jacobsen, Campus Public Safety Officer)
This class will provide simple, practical steps you can take to prepare for a disaster here and on campus, and skills that will allow you to survive mentally, physically and financially.
College Budget 101 (John Ginther, Director of Fiscal Services)
Ever wonder where the college's money comes from and how we spend it? What kinds of funds are used for instruction, student services, administration and other activities? Learn how to decode the college budget and find out what the budget looks like for next year. A question-and-answer session will follow presentation.
Creating Effective PowerPoint Presentations (Tim Trussler, BMTC Instructor)
Are you ready to move beyond bullet points and animations? Do you want to create customized presentations? Learn how to avoid the "Death by PowerPoint" syndrome, where half the room groans when they see you start up a presentation. This class is designed for those who already have a working knowledge of PowerPoint, but who want to enhance their presentations (and presentation skills), and use PowerPoint to maximize the impact of what they are trying to say.
Dealing with Student Issues and Complaints (Dion Teague, Dean, Student Services)
Learn about student appeals and grievances: Steps and processes to include grievances; grade appeal; Bias motivated incidences; discrimination and harassment reporting procedures.
Leaning Into Interpersonal Conflict (Alan Tiger, Human Relations Instructor)
Learn foundational ideas about the nature of conflict. Attendees will learn one four-step method to deal with conflict in the workplace.
Collaborating in MS Word (Tim Trussler, BMTC Instructor)
This class covers the basics of collaborating in Microsoft Word, including allowing and restricting changes, inserting and reviewing comments, accepting and rejecting changes, and comparing and combining documents.
