Welcome to Running Start at Bates Technical College.
If you're a junior or senior in high school, and you qualify for Running Start, you can enroll in one of our programs and jump-start your higher education for up to six quarters, tuition free, while still enrolled in your high school.
What are the benefits?
- Earn dual credit for academic and technical programs
- Gain access to career programs and technical certifications that are not available in your high school
- Study advanced curriculum and learn in an adult environment
- Create a schedule that is convenient for you! Daytime, evening and online classes are available.
Traditionally, Running Start students attend our career education programs full time. Most programs start at 7:30 a.m. and end by 3 p.m., Monday-Friday. Some of our programs offer full-time evening options (2:30-10 p.m.), and a few of our programs run part-time at the college's South Campus, from 3-6 p.m. Because most of our programs are full-time, Running Start students need to work closely with their home high school counselors to create schedules that allow for them to attend (mostly) full time at Bates. Check out this list of career education programs available to all high school students.
If you want a head start on transferable college academics, a variety of classes (online and seat-time) are offered every quarter. Most Bates academic classes are transferable and can help students meet pre-requisites for a variety of programs in Washington State. If you're goal is to earn an Associate in Applied Science-Transfer (AAS-T) degree, only one college-level academic course is required in each subject area (science may not be a requirement, depending on your course of study.) Check out this list of academics typically offered on a quarterly basis.
