Dr. Ron Langrell, President

Ron Langrell 

Professional Experience

Ron Langrell began as president of Bates Technical College on July 9, 2012. He brings more than 30 years of higher education experience, including postsecondary service in the roles of Chief Academic Officer, Chief Workforce and Economic Development Officer, and Chief Student Affairs Officer, all at two-year institutions in the Western United States.

Board Appointment

"We are pleased to announce Dr. Langrell as our President and look forward to the leadership he will bring to Bates Technical College," said Mike Grunwald, past chair of the board of trustees. "Dr. Langrell has the perfect combination of experience and leadership skills to help Bates build on our long history of success and move confidently into the future." 

Educational Leadership

In addition to his postdoctoral study with the Institute for Educational Management at Harvard University, Ron has been acknowledged nationally as an Exemplary Leader by The Chair Academy and as a Distinguished College Administrator by the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.  Here in Washington State, Ron has been elected into leadership roles with the Continuing Education Council, the Workforce Education Council, as well as, the Partnership for Rural Improvement. Ron currently serves on the national Board of Trustees for the American Technical Education Association (ATEA).

Community Service

Dr. Langrell serves as a teacher and mentor to students in higher education leadership in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Florida, and Minnesota. He has founded multiple community leadership programs which continue to prepare local civic leaders in Idaho, Washington and Minnesota.  Ron has served in board director roles on a workforce investment council, a community-based organization, an area chamber, a convention and visitor's bureau, a human rights commission, a development corporation, and a regional economic development council.

Family

Born to John and Cheryl Langrell, Ron (the oldest of three children) spent many of his first 14 years growing up on a Christmas tree farm and orchard here in the Pacific Northwest.  Later, he worked the summer seasons in the woods while helping with the family commercial fishing business. He is married to Vicki Jackson Langrell, and they have three children, John Ronald (IV), 15, Georgia Marie, 12 and Jacquelyn Cheryl, 7. The Langrells make their home in Pierce County.
