Designation recognizes college's commitment to members of the military and their families

TACOMA, Wash. - G.I. Jobs Magazine has designated Bates Technical College a "Military Friendly School" for the first time in the list's four-year history. The annual list honors the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America's service members, veterans and spouses as students.

"It is an honor to be included in the list of Military Friendly Schools, especially given our proximity to Joint Base Lewis McChord," said President Dr. Ron Langrell. "This designation reinforces our commitment to veterans and their families. Our veteran students face unique challenges and Bates stands ready to ensure our military families have the resources they need to achieve their educational and personal goals."

The 1,739 institutions on the list provide exceptional resources and assistance for military students and their families. G.I Jobs Magazine used a data-driven survey of more than 12,000 Veterans Affairs-approved schools nationwide to evaluate and measure the institutions vying for a spot on the list.

Each year, schools who take the survey are held to a higher standard than the previous year through improved methodology, criteria and weightings developed with the assistance of an advisory board.

The annual G.I. Jobs Guide to Military Friendly Schools® will feature a full story and a detailed list of 2013 Military Friendly Schools®. The guide will be distributed in print and digital format to hundreds of thousands of active and former military personnel in early October.
