Tammy Chalmers - Marketing and Business Management
Tammy L. Chalmers knew she needed a degree after she was laid off twice in the last four years because of the down economy. She evaluated her educational options and chose Bates Technical College because it offered the marketing and business management program she knew would make a difference in her life.
"When I visited the campus, I really enjoyed the environment," says Tammy. "The career advisors were caring and interested in me, and my instructor was truly concerned about what was best for me."
Originally from Coos Bay, Ore., Tammy says she's learned a lot about teamwork through her experience at Bates. She served as treasurer for the Associated Student Government (ASG) for three quarters, where she worked with other ASG officers to put together the budget and evaluate recipients of ASG funds.
During her final year at Bates, Tammy has incorporated online courses into her regular coursework. In February, she began working as a purchasing coordinator at a firm in Renton.
Tammy served as Bates' student speaker at the 2012 Commencement Ceremony on May 18. She graduated with an associate of applied science-transfer degree, and the knowledge and college experience that has made a difference in her life.
