Boiler Certification at Bates

Bates offers Boiler Operator Certification Testing, Class I, II and II Operating Engineer and Class IV and V Boiler Fireman. Certification is required to operate boilers in the City of Tacoma. Bates administers testing monthly at South Campus, 2201 S. 78th St, Tacoma. Call 253.680.7402 for more information.

Boiler Certification Test Dates  

Boiler Certification exams are held monthly on Wednesdays. Please note that you must turn in a completed application on or before the application deadline. The application deadline time is 8 p.m.

Testing takes place from 5-7 p.m. at Bates' South Campus in Building E, Room E101B. 

Bill Haselhuhn, Chief Boiler Certification Examiner, evaluates each application and will contact individuals who do not meet the test eligibility criteria.

Boiler Symposium August 2013

Renton Technical College,  Bates Technical College and the Western Washington Stationary Engineers Training Trust host a two-day Boiler Symposium specifically designed for new and experienced operators. The event will be held at Renton Technical College.

This event meets the requirements for the refresher course (required every five years for license renewal) and is approved by both the Steam Certification Board of Tacoma and the Steam Licensing Advisory Board of Seattle. Attendance for the complete event and successfully passing the refresher test is necessary.
