What’s the difference between an Information Technologies Specialist and a Computer Networking Systems Technician? In Bates’ Information Technologies Specialist program, you start out on a computer, and within the first week, will learn to join a computer to a domain, login to gain access to network resources, and access the Internet. You will be introduced to many departmental benefits, including free Microsoft software through the MSDN academic alliance program and access to a vast library of vides from CBT Nuggets (http://www.cbtnuggets.com/).
In the CNST program, you build a solid base of knowledge about computers and networks by first learning about resistors, capacitors, inductors and solid state devices (http://electronicshowstuffworks.com/question588.htm) before you have access to a computer.
In both programs, students are encouraged to obtain as many industry certifications as possible before completing their career education programs, including the Microsoft, Cisco and CompTIA: A+, MCP, MCSE, CCNA, CCNP, CCSP. Specialized certification and degree programs are the primary ways to train for technology positions. More importantly, at Bates Technical College you have the benefit of industry-experienced instructors. |
