Fire Service Students Assist in Community Events

Our fire service instructors and students receive many requests from regional fire departments and community organizations to assist and participate in firefighting-related events. Their calendar will include:

Training Chief Pat Piper will send 15 to 20 students to the 1st Annual Firefighter Appreciation Day hosted on the LeMay Automobile Museum in Spanaway on June 2nd. The day will include several auto extrication demonstrations by Pierce County Fire Department teams. The museum is also home to a collection of ancient hook and ladder fire trucks.

On June 8 – 10, the Puyallup Fire Department has requested the assistance of 15 Bates students to assist with all aspects of the 3rd Annual Pile Up In Puyallup (Auto Extrication Symposium). This event will bring 22 firefighting teams from the Northwest and Canada to compete in demonstrations and contests.

In September, our fire service students, for the third consecutive year, will assist the Gig Harbor Fire Department with their 6th Annual Crunch Time auto extrication training.
