Wireless Communications , Program Licenses/Certifications

The Wireless Voice and Data Communications program prepares students to take the following industry licenses/certifications exams. Pass rates for most of the exams are in the 90 percentile rate or greater.



General Radiotelephone Operators License / FCC
Conveys the licensee the authority to adjust, repair and maintain radio equipment in the aviation, maritime and international fixed public radio services. Exams consist of questions from the following categories: Basic radio law, radiotelephone operating principles, radio wave propagation, radio practice, electrical principles, circuit components, practical circuits, signals and emissions, and antennas and feed lines. Some employers will credit graduates with an FCC license a higher starting pay, and others will substitute years of experience in the field for a valid FCC license.

Radar Endorsement / FCC
Persons whose commercial radio operator license bears this endorsement may repair maintain or internally adjust radar equipment. This examination is on specialized theory and practice concerning proper installation, servicing and maintenance of radar equipment. It will also contain questions covering special rues applicable to ship radar stations, and the technical fundamentals of radar.

Global Maritime Distress and Safety (GMDSS) / FCC
Radio practices and procedures. The exam consists of questions from the following categories: Radio system theory, amplifiers, power sources, troubleshooting, digital theory, and GMDSS equipment and regulations.

Certified Fiber Optic Technician / Fiber Optic Association (FOA)
FOA certification opens up job opportunities and assures customers of worker competence. Exams consist of questions specific to: Fiber optic networks, cables, connectors, splices ,tools, fiber optic planning, installation, testing and documentation.

Integrated Networks Certified Installer / Leviton 
Major telecommunications organizations have reviewed the curriculum for content and applicability and are promoting the hiring of certified graduates to their networks of installers. Testing involves written and hands-on examinations. Students will be tested on twisted pair and coaxial cabling systems to include Category 5e and 6, 110 and 66 style block terminations, jacks and plugs, commercial and residential cabling topologies and standards, installation, safety, troubleshooting and testing.

Cisco Certified Network Associate CCNA
The Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) credential is the premium certification for professionals who design and develop custom business solutions with Cisco routers and switches. Cisco Certifications focus on both routing and switching, as well as WAN swithcing solutions in network design and network support, providing you with flexible options for career development. After completing the requirement for the CCNA, candidates are prepared to install, configure, and operate routed LAN, WAN, and switched LAN networks. 

Associate Certified Electronic Technician (CET)
The International Society of Certified Electronics Technicians (ISCET) has helped train, prepare, and test technicians in the electronics industry for over forty years. The Certified Electronics Technician (CET) Program is designed to measure the degree of theoretical knowledge and technical proficiency of practicing technicians. The Associate exam covers basic electronics, math, DC and AC circuits, transistors and troubleshooting. This certification enables employers to separate knowledgeable job applicants from those with less training and skills.
