College's Commitment

The South Sound region of Washington State has a unique richness that is not found in many geographic regions.  A wide variety of ethnically diverse communities reside here; along with many Tribal nations, individuals with disabilities, and veterans—both retired and active duty—representing several branches of armed services.  I appreciate the diversity in our student population and in our community.

Understanding and appreciating how a diverse workforce strengthens its organizational effectiveness, the Board of Trustees, the college leadership and I are committed to maximizing Bates Technical College’s workforce potential.  I am responsible for and committed to recruiting, hiring, training, and promoting qualified professionals, without regard to race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability, or status as a Vietnam era or disabled veteran.  We must exemplify inclusive behavior in all our interactions to maintain a college climate of respect and appreciation in order to retain talented, qualified individuals.

I encourage college faculty, staff and administration to reflect on the ways diversity contributes to our lives and how it enriches our own experiences, as well as the educational experiences of our students.  We all should be familiar with college policies that relate to respect and equity, while supporting and promoting the equal employment and educational opportunities at Bates Technical College.
