Administrative Medical Assistant, Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the program? Four quarters, however, some students may complete the program in less time and others may take longer. Portions of the program are structured and others are self paced.
Can I get through it faster? A student with excellent word-processing skills with previous exposure to medical terminology may complete sooner. A student who is able to devote significant time outside the classroom may find they progress more quickly.
What is the environment of the classroom? We try to replicate the workplace. Each student has an assigned desk and is expected to treat this as a personal work station. Each work station is equipped with a computer, transcriber and calculator.
Students enter the program at the beginning of any quarter and progress through the program with the same group. They develop the ability to work as part of a team, a critical skill in the medical workplace.
As class assignments are completed in a timely fashion, students develop the ability to prioritize which is another important requirement in a medical office.
Acceptable workplace behaviors in a medical setting are stressed on a daily basis while gaining the skills and knowledge required to be a productive administrative medical assistant.
