Instructor Biographies

Roger Knapp

Chef Roger Knapp has been in the culinary industry for 35 years.  He has been an instructor for Bates' Culinary Arts program for the past 18 years.  Chef Knapp is a graduate of the Bates Technical College Culinary Arts program and the Culinary Institute of America in New York.   He has worked at the world renowned New York City restaurant Tavern On The Green, and held positions with the Hilton and Sheraton Hotels in Los Angeles, San Diego and Seattle.  Chef Knapp has also worked as Chef for the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Atlanta.  Prior to leaving Atlanta, Chef Knapp successfully owned and operated a catering business.  Chef Knapp is an active member of the American Culinary Federation and has served on its board for the past six years.   He has also had the pleasure of working with Pro Start high school programs and has been a judge at the Skills USA competitions. 

Dreher Reed

Chef Dreher Reed comes to Bates Technical College with over 26 years of industry experience. Having worked in various industries, from hotel tourism to country clubs, Chef Reed is a valuable asset to the Culinary Arts program. He has worked with businesses such as Real Networks and Microsoft, and had four years of teaching experience under his belt prior to his employment at Bates. A C.E.C. Certified Executive Chef and a C.C.E. Certified Culinary Educator, Chef Reed obtained an AAS from Clark Community College in Vancouver, WA, and earned a second AAS, a BS and an MA.Ed from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island.
