Major Opportunities and Challenges

Biotechnology Lab Technician

While forging a new vision for the future, this student-centered leader will build upon the College’s tradition of providing high-quality education that puts people to work.


The Interim President will address the following opportunities and challenges:

1. Provide leadership and vision for the college during a fiscally challenging time.

2. Work effectively with the executive team to refine the role and direction of the college.

3. Provide leadership in the areas of institutional governance, defined student learning outcomes and institutional effectiveness to prepare for a new accreditation process.

4. Prepare for the conversion from a clock-hour system to a credit-hour system.

5. Strengthen and expand partnerships and alliances with high schools, colleges and universities, and other public and private sector partners to meet the needs of students and the community.

6. Identify new sources of funding; support the College’s Foundation and institutional advancement efforts with strategic resource development activities and legislative advocacy.

College

  • Can provide visionary leadership that guides the college in determining  priorities, strategic direction, and  the educational needs of the community.
  • Has a clear understanding of the technical college system and the unique philosophy of Bates.
  • Understands the dynamics of a multi-campus institution.
  • Can work collaboratively with the appointed Board of Trustees.
  • Is  knowledgeable regarding  the college finances and budgets.
  • Is student centered and models student-centeredness for the College community.
  • Supports professional development for all employees.
  • Is committed to the continuing development of faculty and the promotion of quality education.
  • Understands the inter-relationship between academics and skilled based education.

Community

  • Can build productive relationships with business and industry, labor, educational institutions, civic and cultural organizations, and other community groups.
  • Advocates persuasively for the college on local, state, and national level on legislative issues.
  • Build upon and expand relationships that promote the College as a resource for individual and community development.
  • Embraces and respects the diversity of the Bates Technical College Community.
  • Successful record of generating external funding.
