Bates strives for continual improvement. To do that, we set goals and assess our annual accomplishment of those goals.
We also participate in accreditation, which is a lengthy process of examining everything about the college. Bates is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU), an institutional accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education. Additionally, many career education programs have national or international accreditation or certifications, or otherwise meet rigorous industry standards for their field. ____________________________________________________
The most recent visit from two evaluators from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities took place on October 27 and 28, 2008. This was a routine interim visit. As part of our requirements for this visit, Bates was required to prepare a ‘Regular Interim Report’. This interim report is standard practice; every college and university must submit this report and work with evaluators five years after each full-scale self study, which happens every ten years.
Bates Technical College 2008 Regular Interim Report
The Regular Interim Report includes general assessments against the NWCCU’s Accreditation Standards, as well as specific responses to recommendations made in the full scale visit of 2003 and a focused visit in 2005.
The outcomes from the 2008 visit are contained in the evaluators’ report, including commendations and recommendations that Bates received:

Please not that the NWCCU is currently undergoing a review of the Accreditation Standards, and revised Standards will be implemented in 2010. For more information, visit the NWCCU’s website: www.nwccu.org
