Specialized Programs

In addition to career track degree and certificate programs, Bates Technical College offers many programs to enhance the achievement of both career and life skills, including programs for personal enrichment, workplace skill building, career advancement, business development and others. Many classes in these programs are offered evenings and weekends to accommodate busy work schedules.

Apprenticeship
Bates Technical College has a 65 year history providing state-approved apprenticeship training programs. We register over 1,500 apprentices annually and currently operate 16 apprenticeship disciplines offering both classroom and on-the-job training. Apprenticeships provide paid, on-the-job learning opportunities in the field with wages beginning at a percentage of the journey-level rate and increasing based on satisfactory progress in both the classroom and on the job. Business and Management Training Center (BMTC)
The BMTC provides management training and advisory services to businesses, governmental entities and non-profit organizations. Offerings include contract training for employee groups, international business consulting, small business coaching, first aid/CPR training and conference facilities available for use by the public. Continuing Education
Take the time to learn something you’ve always wanted to know how to do with continuing education classes at Bates. From automotive repair, to computer technology; Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to phlebotomy, we offer evening and weekend classes that will let you learn something new in a supportive, encouraging environment. Educator Training Center
Our Educator Training Center provides quality services in the areas of faculty training, support, and professional development; career and technical education (CTE) teacher preparation for grades 9-12; paraeducator training; instructional technology, instructional resources, and distance learning. Home and Family Life
The Home and Family Life Department offers an extensive menu of childbirth, parenting, child development and other classes. For those interested in pursuing a career in child care or early childhood education, the department offers a comprehensive training and certification program. The department also provides professional guidance for cooperative preschools, classes in sewing and clothing construction, an early childhood resource center for parents and teachers of young children, and a host of other classes and programs. Bates is a primary trainer and provider of certification testing in several professions. Students in our career education programs have options to prepare for important industry certifications. Job Readiness Training Center (JRTC)
The JRTC’s mission is to provide learning experiences that contribute to, develop, and support the emerging work demands of our community. JRTC works in collaboration with WorkFirst partner agencies to assist low-income parents receiving WorkFirst or TANF to identify appropriate training opportunities leading to employment and self-sufficiency.
