WASL Information

The statewide testing program focuses on the Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALRs), which are Washington’s content standards, and provides broad achievement indicators for the state, districts, schools, and individual students. The state also supports the development of classroom-based assessments, tied to the EALRs, which help guide day to day instruction.

The Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) is a set of standards based tests, is at the center of the program. Two other components, a series of norm-referenced tests and the National Assessment of Educational Progress, are important to the goal of having a balanced and valid system for the measurement of student achievement.
