Preparation for the GED tests consists of three key components:
Intake Process Upon entering the class, you are given the CASAS test, a diagnostic test which assesses your current levels of reading and math. The intake process also discusses and considers learning disabilities and testing anxiety, learning styles, and student schedules and transportation. At the conclusion of this intake process, you are placed in the class that will give you the greatest chance of success.
Practice Tests and Evaluation Before taking the GED tests, you are given practice tests to determine your readiness. The instructor discusses the results of each test with you, and through collaboration with your instructor, you decide if you are ready to go forward with the series of GED tests.
Individualized Lesson Plans and Instructions Each student is given a lesson plan that meets their individual needs. If you are capable of passing the test with little or no assistance, you begin GED testing immediately. If you require additional assistance, then you will receive supplemental materials and instruction. Additionally, everyone is given an individualized math program to help build on existing math strengths.
In addition to GED preparation, JRTC provides other academic services. Students may focus on improving general skills, raising COMPASS tests scores, and meeting career program entry requirements.
