Bates appoints executive director, general manager of KBTC

TACOMA, Wash. – Bates Technical College President Dr. David Borofsky recently announced the appointment of David Hinman as executive director and general manager of KBTC, the college’s public television station.

As executive director and general manager, Hinman supervises a staff of 21 and is responsible for programming, fundraising efforts and strategic planning functions at the college’s Mohler campus, KBTC and KCKA, a satellite station.

“David Hinman has a wealth of pertinent experience to lead KBTC,” Borofsky said.  “He believes in public broadcasting and has the right experience to be a great leader for us. We are enthusiastic about his ability to work with our television station, college and community,” he said. 

Hinman brings more than 40 years of experience in commercial and public broadcasting. Most recently, he served as CEO and general manager of WLJT in Martin, Tenn., a PBS television station that reaches both urban and rural audiences across 16 counties of west Tennessee. He has held positions as director of development, marketing manager and producer/journalist, and was active in several community organizations in Tennessee, including Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, and Boy Scouts of America.

Hinman holds a bachelor’s in journalism and broadcasting from Brigham Young University and a master’s of business administration in marketing and management from Indiana University. Originally from San Francisco, Calif., he currently resides in Puyallup.
