Bates appoints director of communications and marketing

TACOMA, Wash. – Bates Technical College President Dr. David Borofsky recently announced the appointment of Edie Jeffers as director of communications and marketing. Jeffers accepted the position effective July 1, replacing interim director of communications and marketing Marilyn Strickland.

A resident of Gig Harbor, Jeffers brings 23 years of public relations, communications and marketing experience to the college.

“In Edie Jeffers, we have the consummate professional communications and marketing professional who will help our College continue to strengthen our image,” Borofsky said. “We are excited she has joined the Bates family,” he said. 

Most recently, she owned and operated Edie Jeffers Public Relations, serving clients such as Russell Investments, Port of Tacoma, City of Tacoma, McFarland Cascade, the Safe Streets Campaign, Columbia Bank, Franciscan Health System, MultiCare Health System, Pacific Lutheran University, Seattle University, and others. She served as community relations specialist for the City of Tacoma, won the Marcom Creative Award for feature writing on behalf of the City, and was the director of public relations and marketing for the former Signature Media, Inc.

At Boise State University in Idaho she served as a journalist/public relations officer and won the Council and Support of Education (CASE) award for group writing, the CASE bronze award for a feature article in the university’s alumni magazine, and the Idaho Press Club Award for group writing. Jeffers started her career on the east coast where she was a public relations account executive at the Martin Agency in Richmond, Va. and served clients such as Castrol, Qwest and Wrangler.  She also was the director of public relations for the YMCA of Greater Richmond.

Jeffers holds a bachelor’s degree in English from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va.
