Bates Board of Trustees appoints human resources vice president to temporary post
TACOMA, Wash. – The Bates Technical College Board of Trustees recently appointed Vickie Lackman as acting president of the college, effective Oct. 23. She will serve as the college’s president until the board appoints an interim president later this year.
David Borofsky, Bates’ former president, announced his resignation in July and left the college Oct. 22 to accept a position in Colorado.
Lackman has served as Bates’ vice president of human resources for the past five years. She was previously the human resources director for Providence Health System and has more than 20 years of experience in executive-level positions in education, healthcare and manufacturing.
“Vickie will provide Bates Technical College with solid leadership skills, and the college will be in capable hands as the Board conducts a careful search to find the next president to lead the college through its next chapter of growth and advancement,” said Stan Rumbaugh, chair of the board of trustees.
A resident of Gig Harbor, Lackman hold a bachelor’s fine arts degree from Pacific Lutheran University, a bachelor’s in education from Montana State University and a master’s degree in organizational development from California State University. She holds the Senior Professional Human Resources (SPHR) designation, is a certified mediator and is an active member of the College and University Personnel Association (CUPA) and Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM).
