TACOMA, Wash. – Are you interested in a job in the telecommunications industry, or are you already employed the field? Bates Technical College can help you earn basic or advanced fiber optic technician certification.
Bates will soon offer a combined basic and advanced fiber optic technician course. Participants can earn two levels of certification, Basic Certified Fiber Optics Technician (CFOT) and Advanced Fiber Optics Technician (AFOT), in three days of training. Tuition is $665 and classes are Nov. 3-5 and Jan. 12-14.
“This course offers hands-on training for termination, splicing and testing and is the perfect way to get basic and advanced certification in just three days,” said Laura Robertson, wireless voice and data communications instructor.
Curriculum includes fiber optics construction, transmission characteristics and applications. Lab includes ST, SC and LC multimode termination and testing. Students will terminate and test fan out kits and will perform mechanical and fusion splicing along with splice tray management techniques and more. Class will conclude with the combined CFOT and AFOT exam.
