The nationally-recognized CLEP examination program consists of general as well as subject-specific examinations in which students can earn college level credits. CLEP allows students to demonstrate specific knowledge or skills gained through professional training, outside courses, or independent study that is equivalent to what is taught in a college course.
The CLEP tests are computer-delivered, rather than pencil and paper tests. Successful scores on CLEP examinations may be used to meet the related instruction requirements for a certificate or degree at Bates.
Bates is an Open National CLEP testing site and we are military friendly. There are no other eligibility requirements for the CLEP exams.
Candidates must bring in two forms of ID. One must be a government-issued photo ID, which must have the name, signature, and recognizable photograph. Acceptable forms of ID include: a current passport, a current state-issued driver's license, a current state-issued ID card, tribal ID, naturalization card or certificate of citizenship. The second ID must contain either a photo or a signature, but has to be something other than an employee ID card or social security card.
CLEP testing is by appointment only and is typically scheduled on the first and third Thursday of the month at 10:45 a.m. (There will be no CLEP testing on the first Thursday of April due to Spring Break) Contact the Assessment Center by email or by calling 253.680.7030 to schedule an appointment. Please leave a detailed email/message regarding which date you would like to be scheduled, as well as contact information. You will receive a call or email to confirm your CLEP examination appointment. On the day of testing, examinees must register by paying a non-refundable $19.95 fee at Bates' cashier's office.
The total payment for each CLEP test is $99.95.
$19.95 is a non-refundable fee that is paid to Bates Technical College. The remaining $80 is a CLEP fee that may be paid by credit card, check or money order (payable to CLEP) at the beginning of the test.
