What types of tests are offered at Bates?
Students seeking entry into a career education program at the college take the COMPASS test. This is an untimed, computerized test that will determine your career and academic placement. The test is offered at Downtown or South Campus and students must pre-register at least 15 minutes prior to the test time. The non-refundable fee for the COMPASS test is $19.
General Education Development (GED)
Bates Technical College provides General Education Development (GED) testing to those who have not completed the requirements to earn a high school diploma and who wish to earn a GED certificate. Cost for the complete GED battery is $150, or $30 per test or retest. Please Note: The current form of the GED test will be available until
Nov. 21, 2013. As of Dec. 31, 2013, all in-progress GED testing will be deleted. A new high school equivalency exam will begin Jan. 2, 2014.
College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
The nationally-recognized CLEP examination program consists of general as well as subject-specific examinations in which students can earn college level credits. CLEP allows students to demonstrate specific knowledge or skills gained through professional training, outside courses, or independent study that is equivalent to what is taught in a college course. Bates is an Open National CLEP testing site; there are no other eligibility requirements for the CLEP exams.
