Inclement Weather and Emergency Procedures
Not sure if school is in session because of poor weather? The college will make a decision about delaying or canceling classes based on weather forecasts, campus conditions and the conditions of the roads around campus. Once a decision has been made, the college community will be notified as quickly as possible.
Below are the ways employees, students and the public are notified of college closures and delays due to weather and emergencies.

This is the most reliable source of information and is the first source that is updated any time a closure or delay happens. Whenever possible, the weather hotline is updated by 5:45 a.m. with current information and by 4 p.m. for evening classes. Download a sign for your office or classroom.

Regional School Information & Media Notification - www.flashalert.net
Information will be submitted by 5:45 a.m. This site is the regional media's source for broadcast information. Visit www.flashalert.net to subscribe to receive text and email alerts. Once Flash Alert has been notified, they disseminate information to the local media, including TV outlets such as KING 5, KOMO 4, Q13, KIRO and newspapers such as Tacoma Weekly and The News Tribune.
Broadcast Email to Students & Employees
A broadcast email will be sent to the Bates student and staff email distribution email list.
Rave Emergency Alert System
Rave Alert is Bates Technical College's official emergency notification system used to communicate with students and employees during campus emergencies. Students and staff with Bates-issued email addresses are automatically enrolled. This system is used only during campus emergencies that pose a safety concern for the community. Pierce Transit Snow Routes
If you take public transit to school, be sure to check the Pierce Transit website at http://www.piercetransit.org/snow-extreme-weather/ to see if they are operating on snow routes.
